If I hook my xbox 360 up to my sound card, then hook my sound card into my surround sound system, will it improve the sound quality? I havent bought the card yet, so I cant test.

Just hook it up straight to the surround sound system via coax or optical. No need to purchase a sound card nor have to have your computer on to get sound.

I know that I will get sound anyways. I want to know if it will make it sound better.

If anything it would sound worse. The more connections and cables you have, the more likely you'll lose signal quality or introduce interference.

What if you have computer speakers 5.1?
