Hey remember when the Xbox 360 launched with a 20GB hard drive and you could buy it separately for $100? Yeah, good times, good times. We've now been through 60GB and 120GB hard drives for various price ranges up to $150. Now a 250 GB hard drive has appeared on GameStop.com for $129.99 with a March 23rd release date.
The 250GB hard drives have previously only been used for Special Edition bundles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII and Splinter Cell: Conviction bundles. While it is good to see the dollar to GB ratio getting better it is still over-priced compared to similar sized hard drives that can be found for around half the price.
A 250GB hard drive sold separately has been rumored for a while but Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg played coy in an interview with Joystiq where he said, "We're always evaluating but for now we feel like the 120 is serving us very well as the standard offering, and then having the 250 as a limited edition is a good balance."
