If you have a Xbox one X and a recent TCL TV, I just got the update to Roku 9.0 yesterday so now we have Dolby Vision supported with the Xbox 1 X.

Does this also add Dolby Vision support in the Apple TV? I believe it will support 4K24 with Dolby Vision, but unlike my Sony TV, it won't display the menu at 4K60 with Dolby Vision. It always seemed weird to me, because I swear it used to work on both TVs.

I only know about the TCL update we have all been waiting for, and that is the now available Dolby Vision update that now works on the Xbox 1 X. However, although I got the update on my 65" TCL R615, I did not get it yet on my 55" TCL R615. Go figure....

Sweet! I just received and set up my TCL 65R617 but I'm not sure if the roku updated. I didn't see Dolby Vision checkbox available on my Xbox One x. I'll have to check for update tonight. Been reading about this possible update. Thanks for the heads up.

I talked to TCL America today and was told they are doing them and I quote "By serial number batchs”. Was told if I don't have it by months end to call back. How do you like TCL? I like it a lot.

The only issue that I had with mine was before I swapped from the P605 to the R615. For some reason, with Logitech Harmony, it would never turn off the TV on the first try. It was quite literally every other time that it would work. I think I had to end up turning on or off (can't remember which) the power management feature to get it to work. It was the weirdest issue because the LED would blink indicating that it got some command, but it wouldn't do anything. (The original remote worked every time.)

How does the R615 compare to the p605 as far as brightness?

How does the R615 compare to the p605 as far as brightness?

I haven't pushed mine with a lot of HDR content, but according to RTings (P607, R617) , it's pretty significant. The basic scores for HDR brightness are 7.3 vs. 8.7. That may not seem like a huge deal, but their Real Scene brightness test is 489 nits on the P607 and 840 nits on the R617 (+71.78%). So, to be fair, it's still not HDR1000, which is recommended, but it's close and does break 1000 in some of their sub-tests.

I have had both the 55" and 65" pretty much since release, and both have been fantastic. Very colorful and bright! HDR and DV are amazing, as is gaming!

However, something interesting happened yesterday. I bought a second xbox 1X to hook up to my 55" TV which I stated earlier had not received the update yet. Later that night the update went through and now both of my tv's have the update. It makes me wonder if the TV is somehow recognizing the need for the update and if so getting it…?

Anyone having any issues with their Vision? Pun kinda intended..Have a 55p605 and x1x and no matter how much I try I can't get vision running smooth (or longer than 10 seconds without malfunctioning/flickering). The issue looks as though it's engaging/disengaging HDR/Vision over and over, with static lines randomly on screen and blanking out/refreshing every few seconds. Vision works perfect through TV (Netflix App), but not x1x. Since I'm running Atmos (connected AVR is an Onkyo NR-676) this was absolutely a dream come true..wanted so bad to say Suck it Nvidia Shield, we can have it all too! Except, when I tried directly connecting x1x to TV w.o AVR, I managed to completely mess up any imagery appearing at all after tinkering with the xbox settings like color depth, producing only white noise, yes the old school static! Hilarious how trying to get the bleeding edge tech to work can bring back the old days adjusting the dam antenna. If anyone has any ideas it would be a huge help, as I'm sure some of you are aware, TCL and Microsoft support staff aren't exactly well versed on their newest updates unfortunately. I remember the hell I went through trying to get any kind of tech support for Atmos through Microsoft and it was if I was asking about quantum computing.
All devices latest firmware, with x1x on delta preview (switched from the latest public build earlier today in the hopes it would help fix the Vision display issues, same result both builds). Been at this a few days now.

I notice that you are mentioning "Builds." Is this something that has to do with Kodi..? I own the same TV as well as a 6series 65R17. Your Roku update should be at OS9 which was released not long ago. My AVR is Denon x1400h and I have my 4k setting in the receiver to enhanced..all's working fine since TCL Roku TV update.

Are you sure you are using a proper hdmi cable? Properly fitted? Do you use a hdmi splitter or switch?

As far as cable, that's def next step to try so I appreciate the heads up/advice. I did hear in particular white lines or static lines are directly caused by really long cables and it's a pretty darn long cable. Only reason I've been skeptical about it being the cable is because I've had zero issues displaying a Blu-ray disc (from the X1X) with HDR, very high bitrate 4K video and high bitrate uncompressed Atmos audio so why it wouldn't display a low bandwidth Netflix encoded video I have no idea. And as far as "builds", I think that just seems to be what they do to break down the versions of the firmware/software for exact changes and such. The TV and Xbox as a whole use them also. The 55p605 is Software/OS 9.0.0 and build 4151-30 which is listed next to Software version for me. That R series sounds amazing btw!

Update! Vision works absolutely perfectly with a new (shorter) cable. Just in case I said eff it and bought an 8k capable cable with nearly 3x the bandwidth of the old one. Keep in mind, the old one was new and a 18gbs so no slouch. However it may be purely the length because the initial companies HDMI cable now has a disclaimer on their product page stating they noticed some applications aren't compatible. Not their fault Xbox/Netflix's Vision came out a while after they designed/produced those cables. Figured I'd share the good news in case someone else has flickering/intermittent or loss of signal attempting to display Vision on their TCL through Xbox One X. Edit: Not sure as far as this forums TOS about posting company names or where items were purchased but feel free to PM and I'll lyk which company I used that works perfect. Was $15 for a 6foot so not too bad for the 48gbs

I think the problem is likely that you're dealing with cables that may have been tested to operate at certain speeds in bench testing, but possibly fail in real-world tests... or the manufacturer just makes them to a specific specification and doesn't even test them. Sort of a "hey, if I use this gauge of wire with this length, it should work!" mindset.

HDMI 18Gbps is one reason why I think we need to stop with this ridiculous notion of keeping connectors around for ages. It's great for interoperability, but it's absolutely awful for cabling.

But I can say that most of my cables are about a max of six feet, and I try to use the shortest cable that makes sense (i.e. three feet for a short run vs. six). Unfortunately, I'm stuck using an active cable for my AVR-to-TV run due to the length being too long for a passive cable, and even if I got one that could handle it, it would be so thick that it'd be nearly impossible to bend at the required angle.
