Question 1: Does the component HD cable breakout box from the 360 work with the xbox1?
Question 2: Does it help the image quality (have a 1080P HDTV) much using the HD component cables for games that only support 480P (extended definition) to the point where it is worth my while to purchase the breakout box and hook it all up?

1: No
2: Maybe. You should be able to find component cables for dirt cheap (<$10) on ebay. For that price, I'd consider it a worthwhile upgrade.

Since you forgot Question 3...

3: Yes, you should be running XBMC :D

Already have a PS3 (with linux soon to be onn it) running my HTPC / media center needs, just wanted to play Jade Empire and Halo 2 on the new HDTV and then disconnect it once I play through those games in single player mode.

I wish it were that easy. Those things are hard to find, especially the official MS HD pack. But if you can get it, it is DEFINITELY worth it.

Hey let me in on your source. I need one too. :)

shipping was $10, link to the ebay auction added.

Ah, yeah, that's not the official MS XBox HD pack, so let me know how that works out for you.

I bought a $15 PS2\Xbox component cable a while back and it made a huge difference.

I wouldn't say getting the official cables is that important. I doubt the copper MS uses in their cables is any better than some off-brand cables.

Most of the off-brand cables though, didn't have the optical jack for DD 5.1 surround sound.

I was under the impression that s-video only did 480i.

That is correct, it was a typo (left over from another sentence that I was writing, but thought I had fully removed). It has been corrected.

It is certainly not a Microsoft part, but it is pretty much a clone of it. It works great, picture has improved noticeably. It also has an optical port for the DD 5.1 sound.

Worth the cash:thumbsup:

I *think* I have my old HD pack laying around, if you were interested in picking it up off of me. I'd have to go check my old XBox stuff and see. Lmk if you're interested at all. :) (You're also in Dallas, so it makes it easier) :)

Yup it's totally worth it, as you've noticed. It also is nice for XBMC (upscaling video, displaying photos at 720p/1080i). My xbox is still my #1 media center even though I have a 360 and PS3 for its simplicity and ability to just work.
