XBMC can't even do full postprocessing on DivX/Xvid, never mind handle H.264.

What does this mean? I play DivX/XVid fine. What is "full postprocessing"?

Huh ... I must be thinking of XBMP ... I know there was some setting in one of the menus that said "postprocessing" and turning it on just made it chug 😛

What does turning it on do? I mean what is it for?

Improving visual quality through deblocking filters, other effects.

Yeah... it sux that the Xbox can't play .h264 files... oh well, here's hoping the 360 gets cracked soon.
Until then.. my xbox aint going anywhere..

thing is.. xbox 360 is $500. I'd just buy a mac mini at that point 😛 or more cheaply build a PC.. and it still would be cheaper to buy some kind of media interface for it for easy browsing (for the rest of the non-technical family). Hell, it looks like I might be able to pull something off w/ $250... but that is baseline... way over the budget I want to spend 🙁

xbmc is great.. so long as you dont care about picture quality.
hd looks like crap/wont play and dvd/divx playback video quality isnt very great.
im using component and a plasma tv.. my htpc pc pic quality is 100x better.
but as far as doing tv shows and that kinda stuff xbmc rules.

FYI: Xbox 360 CAN NOT do Divx, Xvid (H.263) nor H.264 🙁

Really sux! Thats why my xbox 1 is still in the A/V rack and not an Xbox 360

the xbox 1 could do any of that without being hacked?

Will anyone PM me the resources they used when they first got onto the scene? I know of xbox-scene. Also what modchips do people usually use? I am considering the X-B.I.T.

If you just want to do XBMC you don't need a modchip. You can do a softmod and save yourself some time and effort. All need is a xbox memory card, a copy of the original splinter cell or mech assault, and someone who already has a modded xbox.

It is much cheaper and doesn't require opening the case(unless you want to upgrade the HD).

My xbox is softmodded and I can play burned xbox games, ripped games straight off the HD, and use XBMC.

It can decode lowbitrate and resolution h.264 files just fine.

It can decode lowbitrate 720p h.263 without frame drops.

Check out xbox-scene.com for encoding tips.
