XBMC vs XPMCE

Homerboy

Lifer
I currently run a modded xbox and XBMC.... but I've for some reason been overly interested in using XPMCE instead.

What besides recording and general PVR ability would I gain? What would I lose?

I use both. so you arent really losing anything, You do gain PVR and all that stuff, I think that a modded xbox, with the MCE extender software (you have to buy it, you can't get a hacked version that I know of) Is pretty much the multi-media maven of home entertainment

They still dont have a way to get the XBOX to be a pvr do they?

i have a P4 Shuttle set to be a pvr but i cant figure out how to get the IR blaster remote thingy :-\

not hard to understand is it? I was saying I currently use XBMC on an XBOX
But am contemplating jumping to and XPMCE machine

I still dont undertanst matstars "i was refrerring to a video in" comment... I guess he meant they havent figured out a video in for the xbox.
But even if they did, at pultry 733mhz and 64MB RAM, thats hardly enought to do on the fly mpeg encoding is it?

Skip modding your Xbox and go straight to a HTPC.

Well that gives me your opinion but doesn't answer the question at hand: "What, besides PVR, does XPMCE give me over XBMC?"

my answer would be nothing. You have to spend more money, have bunch of crappy cables, and won't have the option/ability to play xbox games. (unless they figure out how to emulate it...)

If you think the capability of PVR outweighs the above disadvantages, then it will be worth it.

i am not sure how XBMC works but XPMCE is pretty much just XP with the extra software, you can run XP and Snapstreams Beyond Media to turn it into MCE and Beyond TV to add the PVR capability, identical to MCE except not nearly as pretty or fancy

Since my Dish reciever has a PVR built in -- I don't need PVR capability with my Xbox. I've tried XPMCE, and for the most part, it was just a dressed-up version of Windows XP that I don't care too much for. XBMC gives me no hassle whatsoever, and plays ALMOST everything I throw at it. It still has some stability issues -- but that could be a problem with some of the media I use. If I had to choose one, I'd pick XBMC. No fuss, no muss.

thats a good point... if you have already have tivo or something like it then you wouldn't really need xpmce.
