One of drawbacks of xbmc is that it can't play 720p, actually it's more of a prob. with the xbox rather than xbmc. So I was trying to play the file with my laptop(dvi > hdmi) ... is there a way I can access the same deskstop share on my laptop?

thanks in adv!

Yes! It's surprising you are able to figure out SMB on the X-Box but not on your PC's (which it was created for). On your laptop navigate to //PCNAME

nah, I was able to access my desktop from my laptop with //pcname/sharename but it seems to lag so much more than the xbox?
Just scrolling down the list of files or the time it takes to between double clicking and the file actually playing takes A LOT longer on the laptop than the xbox.

Is it because I'm wireless on the laptop versus wired on the xbox? Any other reason?

I have tried to stream video from a desktop to xbox wireless and had major lag. I wired the xbox and stream video from my desktop and the first 10 seconds lag, but it clears up after that.

I'm assuming the laptop is a windows laptop correct? If it is just map the drive as a network drive. IIRC it's under the tools menu in windows explorer. I have my server's share mounted as a network drive like this \\192.168.0.103\Media mounted to drive Z. I think the lag is caused by using the name of the system rather than the IP address. I'm far from an expert at networking so I could be very very wrong on that but I've never lag issues when going via the IP route.
