Any XBMC users out there that have DVD ISO's stored on a network share? If so, how do you play them through XBMC?

EDIT: I have a 400GBx4 RAID 5 setup, with a bunch of DVDShrinked ISO movies already, so I want to have XBMC just read those files, and ideally have a playlist setup with movie info, etc, so that it's easy to pick out movies.

mount said iso to a virtual drive on the PC, share that virtual drive to the network
although i believe they read ISOs directly, but i'm not 100% sure... let me try it out now

confirmed: the video interface sees ISO files so you can play them. but only ISO, other images are not shown, i guess you can tweak the xml file user settings to see if it can read cue-bins or mdf-mds's

This is good to know. Will all imaging programs produce the same type of ISO? Meaning will it matter if I rip my DVD to ISO using Nero versus Alcohol 120%, or ....

If I have both my PC and Xbox connected to my network, do I have to do any special configuring besides sharing the stuff I want?

i think Alcohol only dumps into MDF-MDS format. use IMGburn. free. small. quick. and dump into ISO. and burn almost any formats.

ummm no you these are all wrong
XBMC will play a .iso or .img just as it will see and play a .avi, .mpg anything.
If you have a recent build of XBMC all you should have to do is click on the .img, .iso etc under you Videos share. Simple as that. Has been this way for over a year now.
OP I strongly suggest going to http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/
Read the forums and read the online manual

yes. just share out the drive on PC. make sure both devices are using the router as DNS and they are in same subnet. make sure you have an account that has access permission to read the share, and then use that account in xbmc, you can code in your username and pw in the sources.xml file and makes shortcuts to your share drives or sub folders.

speaking of which, everyone using xbmc but havent updated their version within the past year should do so, the XBMC360 dash interface is just awesome (360 blades dashboard), support for youtube, etc etc. these teams creating these homebrews are simply amazing

yeah that's what i just confirmed.
i tend to share the mounted virtual drive because i have lots of mdf/cue-bins and images with unicode filenames.

so here's my question for you, can you change the settings in XBMC to recognize MDF, BINs as video files? will it play then?

Isn't there a program out there that can index my ISO files and create a nice user interface for picking them out? Something like "My Videos"?

Yeah, if you have your Xbox hooked up to the Internet it can grab the DVD cover plus movie info so you can browse your movies by picture.

Also, DVD ISO streaming across the network works just fine with XBMC.

this doesnt have to be DVD iamges it will do it for .avi, mpg ANY video file (it uses the file name). You can also specify your own images/thumbs for files, folders whatever.

Again: I suggest reading up on the online manual. I've been using XBMC for years now and everytime I go browse through the manual I find new stuff.
