For 2/3/4 GPUs where GPU power is less limiting, > 2GB makes sense for triple monitors and high amounts of traditional AA (MSAA/SSAA) on a high rez monitor. They found this out in this earlier review with GTX690.

For current single-GPUs though, not so much.

"Metro 2033: The Last Refuge and Sniper Elite V2 are the only games that need more than the standard 2 GB of graphics memory, but the contemporary High-End graphics cards are anyway too slow in these games even with 4 GB of video memory."

Hmm, the ASIC scores on the card are broken but the guy praises it for having a 100% ASIC score. lol

Anyways, it appears to fare well in high res situations, not sure how much the memory bus hinders it though. Not sure why EVGA used the short ref PCB with the noisy fan though.

I think the GPUs need to be about 50% faster than a 7970/GTX 670 or 680 until gaming past 1080p becomes really enjoyable. I'm doing fine on SLI 670s but the problem I have is the occational title that has slowdown at 2560x1440. It's not vram either because I'm not using 2GB fully in some of them like Skyrim with some mods. Maybe it's the engine sometimes though. I have to turn MSAA down a bit to get good performance in games like Crysis (known to be bad performance on Kepler) and Skyrim.
