[XBitLabs] Crucial Ballistix Low Voltage 2x8GB kits reviewed

Since they appeared on the market, I have wondered if these low profile 1.35v 2x8GB sticks from Crucial could be a successor to the very popular and highly overclockable Samsung 1.35v 2x4GB sticks. Well, XbitLabs has just published a review:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/memory/display/crucial-ballistix-tactical-lp-sport-vlp.html

I don't want to give away the verdict, but they look pretty impressive. They don't seem to have quite the overclocking headroom of Samsung's 2x4GB sticks, but that's to be expected of higher density RAM.

For anyone interested in checking them out at Newegg, here they are: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2%20x%208GB%29

"Crucial Ballistix"

Does the review make any predictions as to long term reliability?
Does it address the Ballistix track record for "reliability"?

wow CAS 8 @ 1.35 for 2x8gb sticks?? that's insane!! i got the 2x8gb cas 9 @ 1.5v, those were the only ones i found @ the time. Anyways, do the tighter timings do anything these days, or is it all just in our head?

also, what's wrong with Crucial ballistix memory? Crucial has always been among the best no?

Ballistix DDR2-800, I RMA'd 6 2x1GB 2.2v kits and 1 2x2GB 2.0v sets.

2x1GB sets were obvious failures, while the 2x2GB set was elusive and annoying.

that reliability issue isn't good to hear since I just bought a set of the 1.5v 2x8g for my new upgrade. hopefully the newer ones will be better than the 1g sticks.

You know, I had a set of Ballistix DDR-400 that was rock solid for a couple years until I upgraded the platform.

Let us know how the DDR3 is, even with the problems I had with DDR2-800 I would still consider getting a set as long as it's on my mobo's QVL 🙂
