Has anyone heard anything (good or bad) about the Sonic yet? I'm going to be in the market for a new car in ~5 months, and the Sonic seems right up my alley price and feature-wise.

FWIW I'm looking for a small car in the sub-$20K range (if possible). If you all have any other options for me, I'm all ears. I'd really like to buy new.

Anyway, I think I've got it narrowed down:

Ford Fiesta
Kia Rio5
Hyundai Accent Touring
Chevy Sonic

I think at this point I'm wanting a hatchback more than anything. I would really like a TDI Golf but it's a little out of my price range. :\

I've been shopping for a sub 20k small car for the last 2 months. I recently drove a 1.8l Sonic. It wasn't bad but nothing about it really stood out to me. Supposedly the 1.4l turbo that's available is a much better engine with lots of torque at 2500rpm.

I'm currently deciding between the Hyundai Veloster and the Elantra. I would check them out, they are exceptional cars and cost about the same as all but the cheapest Sonic.

Agree about the Hyundais. The current crop are really nice.

I may be biased, but after driving a 5spd Fiesta I'm not sure why anything else in the segment sells. I also liked the closely related Mazda2, but for some reason preferred the Fiesta experience.

The fiesta sedan looks ridiculous though. The hatch is fairly sweet looking for a little guy.

Agreed, the Fiesta sedan looks odd. I really do like the hatchback, however. I really, really wish they sold the 2-door here in America. 🙁
