I am looking into linux and used and old HP to install Red Hat, Xandros and Caldera Open. I partition my drive into 4 primaries. One for each install and one for a swap. All the distos are installed and I am using Xandros boot manager. It gives me 4 options at boot up: Xandros, Red Hat, Safe Mode and eXpert mode. I went to Xandros's control center as root and and looked at the boot. It has all four options and Caldera Open. Why will it recognize Caldera Open when its already logged in, but not at the boot manager prompt?

probably your boot loader is not configured correctly. take a look at the manual of xandros boot loader. I would personally suggest you use lilo or grub. More people use them, they are popular, and you will be able to get more help on them.
