I've been having chest pain for the last 2 mos or so, went to the ER 3x in one week.

So the doc gave me Xanax to hold me over until I take a Stress Test next week. Sucks tho, considering I went to the ER 2mos ago. I think have more anxiety over waiting for the test itself than the pain.

Well the good part is, Xanex helps with anxiety (sounds like Doc thinks you may be having panic attacks that feel like heart attacks, happens all the time). Xanex will make you vaguely happy about absolutely nothing. Content. Calm.

And, If you're bored on a Friday night, take a bit more than your recommended dose and see what happens. :)

i had the same chest pains you speak of. i was stressed out at work and my personal life.

learn to deal with it. because it will be hell getting off it when the time comes.

EDIT: xanax will not make your chest pains go away.

I know it won't make my pains go away.

I specifically asked the doc about addiction and he said that he won't give me enough to get me addicted. I've only been talking a week or so. He actually told me to raise the dose- You need to take at least 4mg/dly longterm to get addicted- I'm only on 2.

Personally I'd rather just have them do the stress test and be over with it, but with HMOs they want to wait until the very end before they spring for it. I will be very pissed if they find something wrong after 2mos of playing the ER shuffle.

And you speak as a licensed medical practicioner in addition to knowing all the facts from his individual case. No? Oh, then STFU and don't act like a know-it-all.

i did the same stress test which was bs. they make you blow in some sort of machine and measure your lung capacity to breathe and then they make you run on a treadmill. i passed both with flying colors.

you are stressed dude, dont take everything so seriously. take on a WHATEVER attitude and it will go away. dont try to please everyone. trust me, i had it for over 1 1/2 years.

Exact same scenario? So, unknowing to any facts about his past medical history, or anything other than he has chronic chest pain and anxiety, you decide, since you also had chest pain and there is only one thing that can cause chest pain, you were qualified to give him advice. Bravo! That's a wonderful and well defended position.

Kudos on your use of the English language. I can't think of anything I could say that could insult as much as you already have.

Ouch. You struck me through the heart on that one. My insight to this thread is simply this. The original poster should, in no way, shape or form, listen to a word you say. You do not fully understand his situation, you are not a trained medical professional, and you have the intelligence of a mentally retarded mongoose.

On that note, Xanax is wonderful and you are a mentally retarded mongoose. That is the summation of my insight.

If I were him, when you said "don't act like a know-it-all", I would have said "You're the pot and I'm the kettle?"

But he's a 'tard.

(No offense to tards)

umm stress tests dont measure mental stress... its a test of your heart... if they think something is wrong with your heart... they give you a stress test... would you rather they just said "oh he must be stressed out" then you have a frigging heart attack?

You don't want to be on Xanax for long dude, will jack your system up bad. You can mail your supply to me, much safer for you that way.

I won't be on it for a long time.

I have had some other medical problems as of late, and with the onset of my chest pain my blood pressure has gone through the roof. I had to start taking a BP medication.

So, yes, stress/anxiety can cause these things, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Xanax is good for short term anxiety, I just don't like the fact I had to wait 3 weeks inbetween my last ER visit and the test. All the while still having pain.
