Can I install it as I bought it from factory or do I need to buy a new mounting mechanism. I'm sure that there is something like that to buy, does the new 2011V3 or whatever it's called has the same cooling mounting system?

I'm pretty sure the enclosed 2011 mounting kit will work for that.

Here's an afterthought if you plan on using the D14 for a Haswell-E system.

Two of us have been able to determine that a D14 will meet the cooling performance of a Corsair Hydro 110. The two systems had load voltages of 1.35V. I can't verify the room ambient for the H110 -- it wasn't reported. Both systems were loaded with Prime95 sFFT for long enough to reach maximum temperatures.

For me to do that with the D14, I had to lap the nickel off the processor IHS and cooler base, and use a thermal compound like either IC Diamond or (better) Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra or Indigo Xtreme. @ 80F room ambient, the four-core-average temperature ranged between 65C and 68.5C. I don't think it would have been that good if I hadn't made the refinements explained in this thread:

With six cores and only so much overclocking potential, the D14 (or D15) will provide adequate cooling and maybe a small thermal margin for overclocking. But you'll only get so far with the overclock no matter what, although I'd like to see more data, and Intel has many more of those same CPUs to produce -- who knows how the prospects may improve?

Older NH-D14s didn't come with 2011 mounting, but newer ones did. If the OPs didn't, you can contact Noctua and they will send you out a free mounting kit.

My bad. I mistakenly assumed that he had the 2011 mounting.

CoolerMaster did that for me and for free, even though the offer had expired. So that's what the OP needs to do.

Now it's got me thinking. Wouldn't it just be the back-plate? Or the back-plate and paired metal reinforcements for the top motherboard? A real fanatic might find it possible to drill more holes and thread them for the screw-mounts.

Start a ticket with Noctua and get 'em for free, I say . .
