X850XTPE O/C core VS. memory?

I have a BBA X850XT PE with an ATI Silencer 5 rev2... ATITool and ATI Tray Tools BOTH report my Max Core as 616 (when Mem is not overclocked) and Max Mem as 632 (when Core is not overclocked). However, I always get 1-2 artifacts when I run 616/632 together... Right now I am rock solid and artifact free at 600/624 and still rising. My question is... Would it be better to have a higher overclocked Core or Memory? For example is 600/630 better than 615/620, etc.?

-Thanks

I would chose to have a higher core clock, but I never run the card at the maximum speed reported by the programs. Usually if you do, you will get artifacts with prolonged heavy use, even if it doesn't find any in the program. Whatever it says, just back down about 10mhz from the max for both core and mem, and you'll have the optimal choice.

memory OC usually gives you better performance especially if you play at high res etc. It'd be nice to sync them though, out of pure symetrical neatness :p

See, it depends on the card, if it's bottlenecked be the mem or the core. A 9800p has plenty of memory bandwidth, but it could use a faster core. A 6600gt, on the other hand, has a fast core, but not as much bandwidth. I don't know what the deal is on the x850xtpe, I guess you'll have to experiment with what gives better results.

I would think a higher core clock would be better but, why don't you try it your self?
