so i just got this x850xt

i was wondering, how do i tell if my card is dead?

i installed it and connected the power cables and everything, just when i boot i get a bunch of random boxed colors running up and down my monitor.

i hear the fan on the card working and it is putting out a signal; its just that the signal is bad!

should i have uninstalled old drivers from my old card? (x700, catalyst)

any help is appreciated, if worse comes to worse i'll have to RMA it
 
Does it give you the scrambled display at POST or only after it boots to windows? Does it even boot to windows?
 
no it just shows colors all pixelated.. it boots windows i hear the jingle when i turn it on, i just cant see anything
