Is everyone forgetting he has Socket 478 CPU...so add $150 to A64 venice 3200+ at least. Not his $300 upgrade is turning ito $550 upgrade.

His cheapest upgrade is to wait for 6800GS and just overclock 2.6 to 3.0ghz (which it should easily do). I agree that if you are going to spend $350US on an X850XT PE, might as well get A64 new mobo + 7800GT. That's why I'd try to find an AGP card for $250 or less.

Buy used in FS forums - I just sold a 6800GT/ultra AGP for $200 Shipped .. AGP cards are cheap because they have no future.. You should beable to get into card you want for about $250.

Course I'd just build a whole new system with a real processor and PCIe for about $500..

Something along these lines

A-64 3000 Retail Box - $138 (overclock to 2700Mhz+)
2 x 512 MB PQI Value $66
Sapphire/C3D GTO^2 $150 (make into 850 XTPE)
Asrock Sata II $65
Tagan Puma II PSU -$38

Free - Bet on soldier PC game from Mwave w/ mobo CPU combo

=$457

ok this is what im getting i made a final descion

a XFX 7800GT
AMD Athlon 64 3200
Chaintech VNF4 Motherboard

which is a grand total of $524.99, i already got the 1gig ram and a 400watt power supply

what brand of power supply might i ask?

wattage usually doesnt mean much since most manufacturers lie and amperage is much more important

You could try to sell your old motherboard/cpu to possibly recoup some of the cost.

Good call on the upgrade. No sense in getting an AGP card new, especially one for $350.

If you're still looking for an X850XT, Microcenter has one on sale for $300 with a $50 rebate, which brings the price down to $250. That's a great deal for a (non-PE)X850XT if you ask me.

i still go with my judgement. Sell motherboard and CPU GPU....sell all that and go PCIe with whatever you want and you will get a good deal at the end of the day. you can get the connect3d card for 175 i think. or the GTO2 for slightly more. these are real cheap rockets that will performe the same as the AGP x850pe when modded and clocked. you can get a cheap CPU that will at least perform on par with yours at the moment. you can do this i think within your original budget if you consider the fact you are selling your pc aswell.
