X850XT non-PE on FEAR settings recommendation

I have a 2005FPW monitor, I can scale it down to 1024x786 or edit the cfg to do 1680x1050 (Optimized res. for this monitor). The problem with 1680x1050 is that fps drops like crazy but if I run 1024x786 there's two bars on the side because I'm running on 1:1 (looks like crap if i stretch it). What would be the optimal settings for this videocard?

My system specs:

P4 3.2c@4Ghz
1 gig ram
X850XT @ PE speed
