so ok, i recently bought a radeon x850xt 256mb. from what i read, i could play like half-life 2 in high resolution and high everything with AA and AF pretty neat too and battlefield 2 with everything at high in around 1280x960.
i always play at 1280x960, even if my computer can handle a higher resolution.
so i thought, nice, looks like the perfect card for me since im mostly playing half-life 2, battlefield 2, f.e.a.r. and am eagerly awaiting games like aftermath and oblivion. i didnt mind lowering a bit my settings for newer games.
but well, i received the card, plugged it in, installed drivers and stuff and then, as a test, starts battlefield 2. it sucks.
i tried lots of different video configuration, i didnt find any that would give nice graphics and smooth gameplay. now, im at 1280x960, everything at medium and 2 or 3 settings at low, AA is off and i cant even play. well ok, if im alone in a building looking down, that's nice. but if something explodes 200m away, if a jeep comes by or 3 guys shoot at the same time, its unplayable.
i even tried in 1024x768 with everything at medium. almost the same crappy gameplay. anyway, with such a card, i dont intend on playing games at 1024x768 on low settings.
i then tried half-life 2, just to see. 1280x960, high quality, AA 4xand AF 16x (as a test) and when i get out on the Plaza in the beginning, too low fps to enjoy it. same thing if i turn off AA and AF.
i felt like biting my fists.
i tried fable : the lost chapters to see and i had problems too, even if i could play right with my geforce 6600.
so dammit, what's wrong? i looked the forum, people everywhere saying how that card could last at least a year and how it could play most of the current games in wonderful quality.
is it me, my computer?
i have a pentium 4 3ghz with 1gb or ram.
i downloaded the latest drivers from ati (not nvidia hihi).
i hate my computer.
thanks
