X850 XT problem

It is a Sapphire X850 XT.

It seems that no matter what driver set I use, it is giving me the same end result. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? In Half-Life 2 and Gunbound (only two games I've tried), the picture is very chopped up, almost looks like horizontal lines cutting it up. The bottom half of the screen is much more distorted then the upper half. I am dying to start gaming on this rig and learn more about all these drivers and such. Please, any help would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Are you saying my brand new card is shot? If you guys agree it's the card, I'm just going to get a refund on this one and buy the ASUS X850 XT.

Sounds similar. I think it's faulty memory. I got mine through alienware a couple months ago.

Thanks very much for your insight, malak. Anyone else have an opinion? If this is the concensus, I'm just going to pick up that ASUS.

well to me it sounds like ATi are having real problems, not only is the card in fairly short supply, the ones that are actually shipping have a good chance of being duff. its like theyre rushing them out the door pronto to make it appear like theyre ontop of the situation

Err, if it's a RAM issue, then that's not ATi's fault, that's the DRAM mfr's fault.

well yeah ok, but shouldnt Ati be making sure the cards they sell actually work first?

No, not if they don't sell the cards.
Sapphire X850XT, ie: CARD made by Sapphire, chip made by ATi.
Hence why he should send it back to Sapphire.

Ok, so you guys definitely think it's the card itself? Perhaps I should mention that everything seems fine outside the game. For example, my desktop and applications seem just fine (picture and image quality wise, no distortion or anything).

They do work, perfectly fine, for a couple weeks. There's no way they can test that. And my RMA took all of 2 days. It's no big deal.

After a couple weeks of artifacting in games I started artifacting in windows and then in the BIOS. It degrades. You can wait and see though.

Darn, that's unfortunate. Looks like this card is going back. Thanks very much for all your help Malak and everyone else.
