Ok i have a question, i bought my X850 XT for $275 and now my brother wants to buy it for $230 but he is giving me his Pny 6800 to sell also. But then if i do that i would have to buy a new video card and i was thinkin the Evga 7800 GS superclock one.

What should i do guys?

Why doesn't your brother save another $70 and buy himself a 7800GS?

Not sure about the pricing of each in the US......but the X850XT performs much better than the 7800GS.....The X850XT loses to the 7800GT just barely depending on some games

Well, to quote a review on a 7800GS.
That pretty much makes the 7800 GS king of the AGP upgrade market?but if you cast off your Radeon X850 XT in favor of one of these, you need your head examined. The X850 XT may lack a few bullet-point features, but it's clearly the same class of graphics card.
So since it is basically a lateral move and not a true upgrade, I wouldn't bother with it unless I could make a profit.

Anandtech's review of the 7800GS was less enthusiastic about this GPU as they force all cards to be run at the chipset companies specs for the GPU(versus the overclocks of some board companies) which, of course, is the only fair way to compare the various chips to one another. The X850XT can also be overclocked if people want to muddy up comparisons.

A lot of the video cards are selling for more on ebay than you can buy them brand new through NewEgg. The prices some of the stuff is selling for has been pretty crazy lately ...

Thats a good thing if you're the one selling the video card. I'd say go for it ...

I was looking at Extremetech.com's review of the eVGA 7800GS Superclock and compared it to THG VGA listing for the ATI x850XT PE. Comparing the two different benchmarks shows the 7800GS SC clearly better than the x850XT PE in performance. One must remember two things here. 1) The 7800GS SC is an overclocked card and not a regular reference card and 2) The benchmarks, properly done in their own setting, are not done in a direct head-to-head match up by the same person/s in the same exact setup and lab conditions. Still, if one is to believe the benchmarks are fairly well done and fairly accurate one could still conclude the 7800GS SC the better performer. At least until someone can put them in a direct head-to-head benchmark setup. Not sure which card is the cheaper to buy. I didnt price the x850XT PE but the eVGA 7800GS SC is going for $314-$340 online.

To the OP,
You'll have to decide wether the 7800GS SC is worth the extra $100 or so you'll need to shell out after selling your x850XT to your brother. The 6800 he's giving you will probably cover that extra cost though.

In that extremetech review, 7800GS tanks in COD2 and FEAR -- arguably 2 most important games for predicting future performance. OP, if you can break even, I would make the upgrade since OpenGL performance will increase dramatically. Also being able to play Far Cry in HDR and having smoothness in AOE3 are bonuses. If you expect drastic improvement, however, you'll be largely disappointed.

Far Cry HDR - spanking 6800Ultra
but unimpressive results in key games:
COD2
FEAR

Thanks guys,

I think i am just going to keep my X850 XT and overclock it to a fairly good speed. I wonder if i can overclock better than a 7800 GS.
Anyways i guess there is no point of selling it i actually got a good deal on my radeon, it was $275.

ExtremeGamer09, I strongly recommend overclocking that P4 2.4ghz (esp. if it is FSB800 with hyper-threading "C" revision).
