Let's not talk about the digits. I just want to know which card of these two is the best in picture quality? Are they the same? Is there real difference that we can notice by the unaided eye?

amm that an easy answer : 7800GTX

You shouldn't compare a old gen gpu vs current gen gpu 🙁

X1800XT vs 7800GTX would be a fair comparison
then i would go with X1800XT 🙂

Hmm, so picture quality will be really noticeable between 7800GTX and X850, is that what you mean?

Actually, the picture quality should be slightly better on the x850 due to the 7800 shimmering, but the 7800 is much faster.

Actually, considering the settings the 7800GTX can do that the x850 will not be able to reach, I'd say the GTX's image quality will be better at those higher resolutions + AA/AF settings.

However, as was mentioned, you're really comparing the wrong generations. The direct competitor to the GTX is the x1800XT, which would more than able to keep up with the GTX and has the nod in IQ.

Gentelmen,

My question is: Is there a noticeable difference between x850 PE and 7800GTX in respect of picture? I'm sure there is, but is it noticeable? does it worth to pay extra $100?

I'm planing to have F.E.A.R and I already have Half-Life 2 Collector Edition, and I want to play them using their highest quality according to vision, and only vision!

I would say that the 7800 is worth the extra money because you will probably have trouble playing FEAR with the highest settings on a x850xt.

If you have an AGP board, the 850 is !(factorial) any number better than the 7800. 😛 Not sure what you have, but I will assume you have a PCI-e board. The 7800 may be the better bet.

The 850XT PE is available in AGP and the 7800 is not, yet.
