If you want to unlock the pipes but not increase the clocks, then you can use a bios editing application, like Rabit, to lower the clocks on a x850xt bios, and then flash the edited bios to your card. But keep in mind that enabling those pipes will also increase the heat output of the card.

Of course it will generate more heat, because you will have more active transistors with more pipes enabled. However, don't automatically assume you will have heat problems. If your x850pro has the same dual slot cooler as the x850xt, then you should have no problems cooling the card at xt speeds. Also, I used to have a x800gto, with a single slot cooler, and it had no problems cooling the card after I flashed it to x800xt.

BTW, the Arctic 5 is for all x850 cards, the pro and the xt. I hope you weren't looking just for the pro version.

That's the single slot cooler, so you need to measure the load temps you're getting now with 12 pipes. If your gpu load temps are 75C or higher then I would recommend getting a new cooler before you unlock or OC the card. The Silencer 5 you linked will fit your card, and will easily cool a x850xt.

But I though that all X850PRO were using the same dual slot from the X850XT, after all, both runs at the same core speed, is not like the X800PRO or X800XT which the core speed was different and were using the same single slot solution. The X850XT runs at 520MHz, and my old X800XT PE ran also at the same core speed with the same single slot solution and never had any overheat problems. And the X850PRO/XT series has an updated ASIC which are more friendly to overclocking and heat output. Just make sure that your chip core doesn't exceed the 75-80C threshold. That single slot solution after years of use the dust bunnies tends to clog the vents and will make the GPU core temp raise. I took off that cooling system, disassembled completely, cleaned it up, also I cleaned up the old thermal paste and put some AS5 and the GPU temp went from 78C to 74C, not bad.

I noticed it was staying at 35c
After flashing it went 70 c:Q
I notice Fan is not even turning Was able to turn on (100%) VIA
ATi tool at full brought it down to 55
THen did some reach found another Bios update which allow variable speed with
16 pipelines.
Upgrade to that one. Now Temp stays 50 or 51 with full load
Stock Core and memory speed with single stock cooler
BTW It is quiter :)

Where did you get that BIOS ?

I had the same problem when I flashed
a X800GTO to X850 XT .. I worked around it with an external fan connector..

P.S.

My modded XT800GTO will do 600/600 ...

My X800GTO2 works just fine with 16 pipes and running at higher clock speeds, using teh stock cooler. However I use ATI Tool to run it at lower speeds while in windows, and then ramp up to X850XT speeds while gaming. You may be OK with the stock cooler.

I liked it 850 Pro over XT cause it run lower Clock speed so it wont get hot
which euals to lower exhaust Fan speed (Thermal Speed control Fan) dell thing.
It is Lot faster then 9800 Pro!
Thanks it was good advice
