Someone thinks they are similar in performance does anyone have a link to any benchmarks that compares the two? I think there is a big performance difference.

The 6800U is meant to compete with the X800XTPE.

So yes, there is a big difference.

Their supposed to go like this I believe

X850XTPE vs 6800 ULTRA
X850XT vs 6800 GTX
X850 vs 6800 GT

etc, then X800 vs the 6600 series.

Since you say the 6800 ULTRA is supposed to compete with the X800XTPE..where does the X850 series go..? It can't be the 7800 series because that's a next gen card, which ATI still has to release.

No no no.

The X800XT and XTPE were meant to compete with the 6800 Ultra. The x800xt was faster, but the 6800u sold more because of flashy features like sm3.0 and hdr.
The X800Pro was meant to compete with 6800GT. The x800pro was slower for the same price, so it fell flat on its face.
The X800XL was meant to crush the 6800gt. With about the same performance, for sometimes over $100 less, it did so. Nvidia never responded to the x800xl.
The X700Pro was meant to compete with the 6600gt, which it lost terribly.

People were constantly buying the 6XXX cards instead of the Xxxx cards almost completely because it was smashed into their skulls that sm3.0 is the future and not having it is suicidal in the game industry. ATI then released the X850 series, they figured that even though they STILL didn't have sm3.0, that making their current obsolete technology faster, that it would win back the people. For the most part, the x850 series was a complete waste of time. Even more price premiums and only marginal at best performance advantages left something to be desired.

The 7800GTX is the next generation card. ATI has yet to release the R520, which is what will compete against the 7800GTX in the performance category.

a 6600 does not even come close to any of the x800 range, l would take an x800 pro over a 6600 anyday of the week.
And the 6600 doesnt come close in a bench, and beyond benching, ingame like say half life 2 the real difference will show instantly !
x800xpte or pro or xt hands down..................

X850XTPE vs 6800ULTRA
X850XT VS 6800ULTRA
X850PRO VS 6800/6800GT
X800XTPE VS 6800GT/6800ULTRA
X800XT VS 6800GT
X800PRO VS 6800
X800 VS 6600GT/6800
X800GT VS 6600GT

This is how it goes, in my opinion. When I say for example X800XTPE vs 6800GT/6800ULTRA i mean the performance of the first card is going to be in the middle of the second two cards or its going to beat the first card and not the second. Two many goddamn ATI cards IMO.

I think I can comment on this, since I've owned a good portion of the cards mentioned. Here is how I rank the cards I've owned from personal experience:

6600GT<X800pro<6800GT<X800pro w/16 pipelines unlocked<6800GT OC'd to Ultra speeds<X800pro w/16 pipelines unlocked and OC'd to XT speeds<X800XTPE

I'm guessing that 6800Ultra is somewhere between the OC'd 6800GT and the X800Pro w/16 pipelines OC'd, and then when OC'd itself is somewhere close to the X800XTPE at stock speeds.

from my experience, the X800XTPE is significantly better than a 6800GT overclocked at or even past 6800Ultra speeds.

I don't think people bought the 6800 series so much for SM 3.0, but because the 6800 was widely available. The x800xt had low availability and that drove prices way up above MSRP. Not only that but when the 6800 first came out, it competed directly against the x800pro, which it won handily.

I still remember picking the x800xt pe last November over the 6800Ultra because I saw better benches for the x800xt pe everywhere..
so the x850xt pe is definately better than than 6800Ultra.

The 6600GT and 6800 numbers are reversed. The 6600GT should be where the 6800 256 is and the 6800 256 can compete with the bottom end X800/Pro cards but not any XTs.

The X800GT competes with the 6600GT which is much slower then any other x800 card.

well, it seems that the x850xt PCI-E are dual dvi, but the AGP version isn't.
