Ok I have had no problem with my X800XTPE since I got it 3 months ago. Then this morning I had to reboot my computer and now XP doesn't detect. It sees a video controller and thats it. It fails to find any drivers, and ATI's CAT 5.3 fails saying it doesnt detect any hardware.

I also have this interesting bit from my ATItool log...

2005-03-23 14:38:27 ATITool v0.0.22 started.
2005-03-23 14:38:27 Detected GPU Chip: R420 (4A50), 16 Pipelines, 256 MB
2005-03-23 14:38:27 Temperature monitoring: LM63 detected

2005-03-24 04:59:00 ATITool v0.0.22 started.
2005-03-24 04:59:00 Detected GPU Chip: 0x4B52 (4B52), 8 Pipelines, 256 MB
2005-03-24 04:59:00 Temperature monitoring: not supported
2005-03-24 04:59:08 Application terminated.

As you can see something is messed up. I have tried flashing my card 3 times now and still the same thing.

May I ask just how my device ID changes from 4A50 to 4B52?

Wow, that's... pretty bizarre. Short of suggesting that the GPU has become damaged - have you replaced the HSF assembly at all? I'm wondering if some semi-conductive thermal grease has made its way onto some of the "hardware strap" pins, and now your card thinks that it is something else. I would eliminate software first as the cause, and if it still has the stock factory heatsink on it, then it's likely NOT to be what I suggested. Are you running any sort of low-level software, that might have features to "fake" device-IDs or something? Modded drivers? ATITool settings?

Nothing like that.....I best I can figure is the bios is messed up even tho Iv tried flashing it 3 times. It's almost like the bios itn't talking the new flash. Is there anyway I can unlock the bios? Flashrom says the rom is locked but I get no errors when flashing, however, I do get an error when I try to set the tv mode.
