X800XTPE Backorder Dilemma

Ok so I placed an order for my x800xtpe in novemeber, now I know the wait is like 3-5 months for these things and I am sitting here trying to decide if I should say screw it and jump on the 6800ultra.

Reason for debate is I play all my games on 1600x1200, and will be playing hl2 alot when dod:s comes out. The x800xtpe beats the 6800ultra with sometimes a wide gap.

Called ati today and again they said maybe january maybe feb. so like I said, trying to decide if it is worth it to wait 2 more months or if it would be ok to go with the 6800ultra route and be perfectly happy.

Main thing here is, I don't really want to wait another month to another 4 months...but I don't want to look back and regret it when I have the 6800ultra in my system. Should I go for it?

I did the notify thing with Newegg on the Abit X800xt pe. They sent me an email yesterday at 3:25 pm letting me know that they had them back in stock for $477. I ordered immediately and by 5pm they were back out of stock.

It'll be here Tuesday. :D

Holy crap. I wouldn't wait for the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders for months.

I just bought a X800XT PE used, and it is a gaming beast, but if I had the choice of waiting till "January or February, after ordering in November, my patience would be out the door and the 6800U would be on the way.

Personally I could live with playing 65 vs 80fps at that setting easier than I could live with waiting 3-4months for the card.

Presumably you're not playing HL2 at all now as you only play at 16X12 and don't have one of these cards. So you're going to wait to "maybe" get a card by February? How many people do you think will be playing HL2 in March 05? Something else will be out, HL2 will be old news.

It's already getting to be old news.

All that said, no complaints with the XTPE. It is a stellar card.

I am still playing DOD after how many years. Have dipped in a few new games but keep going back to the hl/dod/cs. Think it is going to be simular with hl2 and mods, thus I want the absolute best for longevity

If you want PE, you got to actually pay attention and jump on it quick when it comes in stock. Newegg had both Gigabyte and Abit X800XT PE in stock for around $480 this week for couple of hours. I had chance to buy both but passed since I already have 6800 Ultra OC that I bought new for only $389. You got to read the Hot Deals forum if you're looking for this card.

I dont think hl2 will be old news any time soon. Half life 1 and counter strike are still being played today, with the original counterstrike being the most popular online pc game of all.

You need to be quick though. When the Gigabyte card came back into stock, it was $490 or so until the next morning when it jumped to $595. It's now back down to $550.

If you want the best for longevity, you shouldn't be looking at a X800XT PE at all. Why would you think 2003s DX9b feature set will offer the best longevity?

A SLI 6800GT or 6800U SLI rig will offer the best logevity. They are as fast as a X800XT PE at HL2, and faster at everything else. (and they offer DX9C features) If you can't swing both now, buy one.

Well I have thought about that too, but as it works out there is no need for it. Whenever I buy a new cpu/mobo etc... I always buy a new video card as well. Thus right now I can have one card that will be the top preformer. Down the road, provided this kind of upgrading I don't see myself getting a second card. Kind of the same reason I went for the amd 754 socket... I don't want to upgrade down the road, thus 939 wasn't so appealing in that aspect. Bottom line is, all I want it to do is basically play hl2 as smooth as possible with as little trouble as neccessary. If this is offered now, the solution will last for a long time. The x800xtpe works and right now is cheeper than going for two 6800s and like I said when I build a computer thats is basically it (my funds are depleated), and when the time comes around again in a few years the same will happen.

btw. the reason I upgrade this way is becuase I give all my old components to my father, it works out good. Example my current computer is replacing their p3 system, and I am building this new one as a replacement for mine and they will get the new one in a few years etc...

Bestbuy stores still carry them, you just need to ask because they (usually) do not have them on the shelf. My local store had 3 locked away in one of the cabinets today.

Yea HL2 will be old news... just like regular HL... and counterstrike... we all know how quickly those stupid things died.
