X800XT ->X800XTPE

With the X800XT being just an underclocked X800XTPE what is the easiest/best way to overclock it to PE speeds?
I'm sure it is quite simple just don't know which tool to use or which one is the best. Not looking for any speeds above the PE really.
 
For OCing ATI cards, the programs I have used are AtiTool & Radlinker. I'm sure there are more, but those are the most popular ones as far as I know. Not that I have ever done any extensive OCing. 🙂

Use everything others have said but remember you might not get to PE speeds because the reason it is an XT and not a PE might be because it can't hit PE speeds.
 
how do you begin though, and at how many mhz increments should you raise the core and memory speeds? if i want to get core to 520 and memory to 560 llike pe, should i raise them both at a 1:1 ratio (first try 504 core and 512 memory (1/5)) or is there a better way to approach it?
 
I think the best way to OC that card is to test the core and mem seperately. Use a program like ATITool to test the limits of memory and core. Checking them independently will give you more information than just raising both in a 1:1 ratio. It will also tell you exactly where the problem is when you hit the wall.

You want to find out if you can clock to PE speeds (quite likely IF you have 1.6 ns mem) so you're checking for 520/560 operation. You can go beyond that if you want, but I'm pretty happy with 520/560 on mine.

ATITool will also allow you to monitor the temp of your card because it runs in a window. My XT flashed to PE runs about 70-74 degrees under full load. On the desktop and at idle it runs 38-39. I would say the load temps I'm getting are at the upper limits of what I'd prefer, but YMMV.
 
You shouldn't need to flash the BIOS. Just fire up AtiTool or your program of choice, and use small increments - like 5mhz at a time. I'm not an expert OCer but I've messed around a little bit.
 
tourguide: what program do you use to monitor your video card's temps? the ati control center does, but i don't like the interface and question the accuracy of it
 
I use the Overdrive tab in the drivers to watch the temps. I can't speak to the accuracy of it, but FWIW that seems about as accurate as you're going to get without breaking out a thermal probe. I just don't care THAT much about the accuracy of it.

Since ATITool runs in a window you can have the driver properties open next to it to watch the results. I am sure there is some variance between the actual and what it displays but that is the nature of the beast.

To be clear here, I am NOT advocating flashing the BIOS before you test the limits of the card AND the memory. AFTER, and only after you check both out to ensure stability and proper operation do I recommend flashing up to a PE BIOS. My card works at those levels without any problems and I just didn't want to have to d*ck with upgrading Rivatuner every time a new version comes out. Drivers are enough without adding extras in for "fun".
