x800xl vs. x850pro

if the price is the same? My 9800pro shot craps last night and I got my hands on an x850pro @BB for $265 total. I've been looking around and and the best I can come up with for a brand new x800xl is right about the same price. I know the xl has 16 pipes vs 12, but it's clocked quite a bit lower, thus fillrate is better on the 850pro.

this will turn into a fanboy thread.

if an xl is worth 250, an x850 pro should be worth like 215, and an x800 pro should be 200. (a vanilla x800 is around 170-180ish)

BUT, because an x850 pro is the same price as an xl, its NOT worth it. and xl is way better. look at benchies from anywhere. you can get an x800 pro refurb with a 3 year warranty from ati for 180 which is a really damn good deal. it depends how much you want to spend. any x800 you buy will be signifigantly better than your 9800 pro.

I think they are fairly similar. the extra MHz on the X850 helps, but the X800XL has the 16 pipes.

Hard to find numbers comparing the 2, but I don't think there is too much difference. I think the X850Pro is just an OC'd X800Pro or something to be honest...... in which case it might mean the X800XL is slightly better, but it's hard for me to say, since I could not find any comparisons.

Interesting.... they're pretty much the same except for a few games where AA/AF is on, then the 850pro kinda stalls a bit. Another factor is the 850 pro should overclock better than the xl. I'm going to keep looking around, maybe I can find a good deal on something a little better.

Look around in the FS/FT forum. I got a brand new x800xt-pe for $260. 😛

Shop around a little.... you can pick up a new X850XT PE for around $300 and the price will keep dropping the closer it gets to the new cards coming out.

Good stuff, I was writing my post as you posted... There was no posts in this thread when I clicked on it.. 😛

you cant get the pipelines on an pcie pro....

i asked this question a while back, maybe you guys can answer this here....will a reasonably o/cd xl beat a o/cd pro? i would assume the pro can clock higher since the xl gets max about 440 on the core

x800XL is the better card. the extra 4 pipes compensates for the lack in clockspeed. getting the x850pro is a waste of money when you can get the XL for as low as 229 at tigerdirect.

good thing i read this thread. i was begining to feel like a idiot for getting an x800xl for 200 when the x850 pro was going for 250.
