X800XL users help me out

Took a chance and spent the $250 on the X800XL which was amazing since I only wanted to spend $163 on a 6600GT. Now I'm kinda kickin my own @$$ for not splurging for the 6800GT.

I'm mostly interested in playing BF2 @ 1280x1024 max setting and AA. It's just staring me down from inside the box right now! Also HL2, Far Cry and most other DX9 games. Doom3, yes I will playing it and yes I know it runs better on Nvidia cards.

What kind of FPS are you guys getting??? Are you happy with it??

Also, overclocking is very important to me since I build budget gaming systems and get the most out of it. How high have you guys gotten your X800XL??

System I am building:

Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Rev.E
DFI LanParty UT Ultra-D
Fortron BlueStorm 500w
1GB OCZ Value VX PC3200
Seagate 120GB SATA 7200RPM
Radeon X800XL 256MB PCI-E
NEC 3250a

Thanks!

X800XL is fine for BF2. It's your RAM that's affecting you. BF2 needs at least 1.5GB on HIGH settings, so 2GB total should do the trick.

BTW, I get no lower than 40 FPS with my X800XL on HIGH settings. I average about 50-60 FPS, but it often goes well above that when I'm not in large open areas with heavy combat. It's a good card. The only reason I can't play in HIGH settings is because I too only have 1GB RAM at the moment. Plus my power supply went bad so I'm on hold until I get my replacement. 🙁

x800XLs don't tend to OC too well. They are a good value out of the box, even not overclocking.

A good OC isin the 450 MHz range, but most people get in the 420ish range on the core. not bad but not great. There is some speculation that PCI-e power is a primary factor, as most x800XLs do not have a power connector, and it seems that OCing may push it over the edge to needing some more juice.

What he said.

Dude, a X800XL is like the same thing as the 6800 gt, just without SM 3.0 or DX 9.0c support. its a great card. To run high settigns on BF2 your gonna need more then 1 gig of ram because its a awful resource hog. Far Cry, Doom 3, and espically HL2 will run great with the X800XL, you dont need to worry about them. You got a fantastic card, and not much different from the 6800gt. Maby with the saved money you can get another gig of ram?

What about the memory?

I have no problem playing any games so far.
I play BF2 at 1280x960 high detail and 4xAA smoothly. Upgrading to 2GB Ram helps a lot. Have no problem playing HL2 and WoW at 1650x1080 either. I don't play D3 so i don't know. As far as i know, it's pretty much an equal to 6800GT in most area. I can OC it a little with ATI Tool but not much.

Memory is the same as the x800Pro, at least it's the exact same memory on my x800 Pro and x800XL... in the 520-550-ish range. But memory speed is a smaller factor in terms of overall performance. Seems to have about half the effect of the core speed in my experience, though that varies with each particular application.

ive got 2 gb ram and x800 xl right now. seems fine in bf2 with a amd64 3000+. i run it at 1600x1200 4xfsaa high everything. im going to downgrade to a 6600gt eventually though, i just am not a big enough gamer to really need the x800xl.
