X800XL problem

try to load up BF2 and right when it goes to logon........it freezes. Then it blue screens with the ati driver ati2dvag.dll in infinite loop. Tried new drivers, old drivers, omega drivers.....and still the same thing. Getting frustrated and any help is greatly appreciated. Thx.

System Specs:
A64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo4-f
2x512 OCZ EL Gold PC4000
256mb ATI x800XL PCI-e
80 and 120 gig drives,
etc.....

its bf2... more bugs than the friggin rain forest...

reinstall bf2, update it to latest patch also

sorry forgot to mention............already reinstalled it and same issue.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas before i do a full xp reinstall.

Just on BF2?

Have you used DCPro on your compy and then installed fresh? My ATI problems all but disappeared once I started using DCPro after any upgrade/switch.

yes on any ati driver change i used Driver Cleaner (whichever one is free). Still same issue.

Yes it is only on BF2.....the only game i play.

I used to use a X800XL and never had any issues with it and BF2. If it's not a driver issue, I would try a complete windows reinstall.

try a clean install of Windows too...is it just in BF2?

I was sure you had tried DCPro - just checking.

Updated all the rest of the drivers? I've have sound card (seperate and onboard) give me issues now and then - typically more so than the myriad of other crap in today's PC.

Your orig post is pretty sparse...

Just recently given you problems? Or first time firing it up on this PC? New build?

Other than taking the system down to bare bones, installing XP/SP2, then drivers, then all updates - not much else I can suggest unless more info is given.

Don't have the XL, but an X800XT AIW with ATI driver playing BF2, no problems like that.

Just to update this thread........it was not a new install of XP...... ALSO this only happened once I tried to hook up my PC to my RPTV. The resolution went all screwy.

Anyways I had a 6600GT returned to me from RMA and plopped it in......and no problems. So i'll wait until I get all the parts for my HTPC and try and fire up the x800 and see if it pans out. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

Yup, I offer no help also, but I will say my ATI X800XL works fine with BF2, running Windows Media Center Edition. Been updating the Catalyst drivers regulary since the game came out. I just use the 'ATI Software removal wizzard' or whatever its called.
