X800's don't need uber power supplies. Either of those will work fine. IIRC when ATI introduced the X800XT they had it running in a shuttle sff with 250 watt psu.

Stay with that 400W TT psu.

It will get the job done for now,

Later on when you need to upgrade, pick up a OCZ 520 Power Stream for $130.

Or maybe a SeaSonic S12-430 ATX12V 430W

Both of them should have 80% efficiency.

If i get an x800xl but plan to upgrade to a x850xt in the future, should i just get the larger PSU?

I'm building myself a new system on a PCI motherboard, probably the Chaintech vnf4 ultra.

you plan to upgrade in the future from and x800xl to and x850xt ??? That would be pointless.

Either get the x850xt now, and upgrade in the next generation...Or even just get the x800xl and upgrade to the next gen...

ya but no one is goin to be running on a 250W just because the card can run on it...u got a lot of other peripherals as well...if ur goin with the X850XT get 400W and above..it is the most energy consuming card of this generation!!! if ur goin with the X800XL 380W should be more than enough unless u got lots of xtra peripherals
