X800XL OR 6800GT

I'm looking to upgrade in a few weeks, but still not quite sure what will give me the best performance. I'm still running an AGP Mobo.

I play PC games all the time. Like CS:Source, UT 2004, FarCry, Doom 3.... So OC'ability is always a PLUS

I really want to get a 6800GT, but they still have that gay a$$ freezing glitch with all NF3 chipsets....and i have a Lanparty NF3 250Gb mobo

So i don't want to buy that card and have that annoyance...

On the other hand...

I could get an X800XL for around the same price (300) and i won't have that problem with the NF3 chipsets but i won't be able to OC at all (supposedly).....

Is there anyone in my shoes????
Can anyone suggest a new card that will be just as good as one of these 2??

Any help is appreciated

What is this 'freezing glitch' of which you speak? I've been running an 6800gt with an nforce-3 250 based MSI k8n-neo2 for quite some time, and haven't noticed any frezing glitch.

Well I just bought an X850XTPE for $311, so personally I wouldn't consider the X800XL to be even remotely comparable. but I do believe the 6800GT is a good card choice. I like NVIDIA more than ATI because of digital vibrance, but I think I'll be able to live without it..

Maybe...

The X850XT is only about 10% faster than the X800XL . . .

Where are you buying the XL? $300 seems high . . . XL usually go for $250 . . .

hmm i got my prices mixed up....but yeah i want to spend around 315 tops. But i wanna find the cheapest, best card as possible.

I've heard tons about a slight 'hiccup' while gaming w/ the 6800GT's and NF3 chipsets. I've also heard that it doesn't happen to some people with NF3 chipsets.

They say it's not really a big deal but just annoying, and sometimes u have to shut down the game to fix it.

I've also heard u can just turn off Fast Write and it stops but u get some kinda loss in FPS

I'm pretty sure X850XTPE >>> 6800GT, but you could look through benchmarks. ;)

The X850XTPE only wallops the GT in Direct3D games, but in OpenGL the 6800GT can beat it . . . I would say just get a Leadtek 6800GT (with the massive copper cooler) and overclock it to Ultra speeds . . .

Ok, if you want shader model 3, get the 6800gt. If not, well, it really doesn't matter what you get (that you mentioned).

Just FYI have the exact same motherboard as you (DFI LanParty nF3 250Gb) with a Gainward Golden 6800GT and have had no issues with it. I play FarCry, Doom3, HL2, and Unreal 2004.

Well i guess thats good to know....I think i am going to just go with a nice 6800GT and see what happens...or i might wait and see if the GTO2's AGP are as moddable as the PCI-E ones are

That would be sweet if they are

Okay, it looks like the rebate has already expired, so you're left with only the 6800GT. There is no AGP version of the GTO2. It's still possible since we don't have a definite "no" yet, but it's very very unlikely and I'm pretty sure the websites that listed them just made some errors in all this recent X800GT/O/2 confusion.

I have a BFG 6800 OC unlocked 350/870 on Neo 2 plat(NF3)..and I saw many more stutters vs my X800XL which is in DFI SLI DR..HL2 had way too many....

I would go ati on the NF3 personally

Many people have called Sapphire and they said it WAS an AGP version....I'm either goign to wait to find out...or go ahead and buy an X850XTPE

hell i'll prolly call'em and ask'em 3 times in a row...and then ask for a manager haha :D

Damn it Nvidia.....WHHHYYY!!! (shakes fist)

If you plan on not SLI/Crossfire, get whatever is the cheapest.

If you plan on wanting to OC, go 6800GT
