X800XL cooler

I have an X800XL and was thinking about doing a voltmod and then OC it to xtpe speeds. Do you think Is my stock cooler fine or will I need a better one for this?

Unless you have some good positive air pressure in your chassis, then I would definetly go with an aftermarket heatsink. ATi silence 5 rev.2 or Zalman VF700 for $20.

Actually I think my GPU is too hot as it is, I OC and my fps goes down. So I am pretty sure I need one. Thanks.

does someone have a review of the ati silencer 5 rev. 2 vs. the zalman VF700, and maybe VF900?

I looked into this a while ago on silent PC review and there were a few instances of people having the silencer5 rev 2 failing and frying the cards. That lead me towards the zalman, but I really wanted something to exhaust the hot air from the case. So bottom line, I still haven't done anything.

does the vf900 plug into the gpu or do you have to plug it into the fanmate to control the fan?

The vf700 has to have the fanmate2 to control it and can't be plugged into the GPU so I'm not going to get that, so it's betweent the vf900 and the ATI silencer now.

I've heard alot of people say their fans died, but I'm still optimistic.

I have a ATI Silencer 5 rev 2 on my X800XL and it's great. Silent when running it at 100%(which I do all the time) And around 43c at idle and 53c at load. A nice 20c drop from stock cooler.

Those are the temps I'm looking for. I think that's what I'll get.
