X800XL and the 6800GS

Is the X800XL just as fast as the 6800GS? I was thinking about swapping my XFX 6800GS o/ced edition for a X800XL+ money. According to reviews they are neck to neck except in HL2 the XL wins and in Doom III 6800GS wins.

both are neck to neck at least almost with X800XL maybe having better IQ in non SM3/hdr games and maybe a bit faster as well

however I would any day keep the 6800GS for hdr etc.

BTW how much are you getting?

probably about $30-$50. I was hoping to find a lower end AGP card with the money for another system.

Wasn't worried about upgrading. I was hoping to stay around the same as far as performance which with the X800XL I guess I would be and I would getting another video card out of the deal. Of course I agree for $30 I don't think I will but if I can get $50 I probably will since that will be enough(or almost) to spring for a 9800.

I dont know me and my buddy compared my X800Xl vs his 6800GT and i smoked him all games....same procs and everything else the same. I currently have a 7900GT now.

Well, just count how many games you play right now with hdr, and if your answer is like one or none, then go for it. You'll get at worst a little less performance, and at most, a nice boost with aa+af on. Plus, the extra cash can be helpful as well.

I don't think HDR is a factor on this level card, since the card is just not fast enough to use it anyway.

You can use RivaTuner to unlock the masked pipelines/vertex unit on the 6800GS and its a bit better.

I play Oblivion at 1024x768 with HDR on and everything max, but it drops to 10fps outside (unplayable).

The 6800GS PCIe doesn't have any pipes to unlock!
