I'm not sure I'd quite call it a "weak over priced piece of crap", but it's not worth paying $300 for. If you can wait a month or two, you might be able to get an X800XL (nearly as fast as a 6800GT, MSRP $300) for the same money, which would be a much better deal. Of course, it might be six months before they're widely available, given the way the video card market has been going.

There have also been deals on the 6800NU for closer to $200; look around in the Hot Deals forum.

And have you considered the 6600GT? It's only a little slower than the 6800NU if you don't run with AA/AF cranked all the way up, and costs close to $200.

And no, do NOT buy a 256MB 9800Pro. They perform identically to the 128MB versions, but cost way too much. If you can get a 128MB 256-bit 9800Pro for ~$180, it might not be a bad deal, but you'd have to weigh it against the 6600GT.

6600GT for $200 will beat the crap out of your 9600pro.

The X800SE is basically just a faster 9800.

The 6800 is faster than the X800SE. 12pipes vs only 8.

You might be able to unlock the pipes in the 6800 to make it a 16 pipe card.

I want a 256 bit card, thats why I don't want a 6600GT. Basically, I want something to tide me over till may (HS graduation, will be getting lots of money to build an SLI or AFR pc). What card do you suggest I get?

Get a BFG 6800OC if you can find one. They overclock rather nicely. Whatever you do don't waste your money on the X800SE.
