I just got a X800Pro VIVO to replace the 6800gt that I traded away. I unlocked all 16 pipes and overclocked it. Didn't have to flash it to the XT PE bios, because I didn't want the extra voltage. I ran 3Dmark05 and got a 500 point (11%) improvement from my 6800GT that was overclocked beyong 6800 Ultra speeds!

I then ran 3Dmark03 but there wasn't an improvement in that one (basically the same).

I also just played a few rounds of BF2 and didn't notice any differences. :)

So which is the most difinitive answer to wheter this or my previous 6800gt is better?

They are both good.

X800s do better in 3DMock though, but really, you're not gonna notice any difference in games.

Why did I do what? Replace my 6800gt with a X800pro VIVO, or unlock the 4 pipes? The second is obvious. The first is: I needed a laptop for my GF (since she is going be be bed ridden for about a month) and all I had to offer in trade that was worth a decent amount of money at the time was my 6800gt.

This thing is an overclocking monster BTW. It seems stable at 510/540 which is 10/20 from XTPE without adding any more voltage. :)

Well OCing an X800Pro that is unlocked is the same thing as an XTPE

Ooooh 3dMark. Man my score just jumped 1000 points but all my games still play the same.... i wonder why

Nice OC, but the fanboy thread is kind of annoying. I can see someone coming in and really screwing this thread up :(

What brand of X800Pro did you get? NewEgg has an AGP VIVO version for $256 - did you get that one. Pretty sweet deal if that can overclock by that much.

The x800xt(pe) is usually a bit faster than the 6800gt or ultra, but I doubt you'll see any real life difference, unless of course youre playing HL2 or CS:S. Anyway, you got a pretty fast card for that money.

Fanboi? The only brands that I'm somewhat loyal to is Adidas and Lexus. And OCing the X800 pro is not the same thing as XTPE. I didn't flash it with the XTPE bios, so it's using less voltage. I'm sure I can get slightly higher overclocks and actually reach or go higher than XTPE speeds but I don't think I need it. Currently it's running 10/20 below XTPE. And...my 3Dmark05 ONLY jump by 600 points to to 6063! In BF2, I don't really notice a difference, but that's what I wanted. My 6800gt was pretty damn good. I wanted something that was pretty cheap and kept up with it.

I got it used from the FS forum from a reputable trader. It's a built by ATi card. I think all AGP VIVO's are "unlockable". They are pretty much the same card as the XTPE's with a different bios from what I read.

Like Munky said the only games your really notice a difference is HL2 & CSS for positive performance gains. For the negative Doom III Other than that and 3dmark you've just made a side grade except of course the VIVO.

They are unlockable, just now you have to take off the heatsink, scrape off 2 little blobs of paint and use a conductive pen to connect 2 circles together before softmodding/bios flashing. it's fairly easy but still requires more effort tha a softmod though success rates are around 90%.

Im not saying it is a fanboy thread. Im saying that ATI fanboys will be all over this saying how bad the 6 Series sucks. Notice my end comments about how bad this thread can potentially get.

What i am saying is OCing an Unlocked X800Pro is the same thing as an XTPE. Voltage only ensures stability, it has nothing to do with speed.

Yeah, we have hoards of people on this forum exploiting every opportunity they can to claim the 6 series sucks.

Hm, personally that wasn't a smart move. They perform about the same, yet the 6800gt had Shader model 3.

I hear that in future games you will be forced to wear pink in multiplayer if you don't have SM3.

Don't worry when the R520 comes out he'll stop saying that.

Can you please tell me what Shader Model 3 did for me? Don't get me wrong. I really liked the 6800gt while I had it. I personally think it was a very smart move, since this way I got: 1) an IBM laptop for my GF who is going into surgery and will be bed ridden for about a month and won't have access to a computer unless it's a laptop, and 2) a video card that's almost/just as/slightly better than what my 6800gt was capable of at a VERY good price. If this card performs 85-90% of what my 6800gt then I will be happy. If it's just as good, or better...then it's just an added bonus. I don't even know what Shader Model 3 is, therefore I probably won't miss it. I do clearly remember the whole debacle with the botched video processor that was supposedly in my 6800gt, but I didn't really miss that either. :)

Don't listen to the fanboy, barely any of the games out now even support it, and one of the more prominant games that did now supports Shader model 2.0 anyway (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory)
