The things are cpu limited in pretty much all games now until you hit 1600x1200 + AA/AF, i dont see what even more speed is going to do for us 😛

We need intel and amd to hurry up now 🙂

That's exactly right. Look at the benchmarks and a card like the Nvidia 5900XT is right there in most benchmarks at the lower resolutions. For that reason, I bought a Leadtek 5900XT for my new system, only $189. I'll wait for the new cards to drop in price. And besides, just because ATI announced May 7th, that's when review sites get the card. It won't be in stores for another couple months. The 6800 was announced last month, have you seen it yet on pricewatch? No. That's the problem with all the hype, is the review sites get the cards months before they are available to the general public.

The card is available for sale now. They started to ship on April 26th. The reviews will be out tomarrow, and the cards will be on the shelves in stores then. This is what separates ATI from nvidia, they don;t sell vaporware.

How do you know the 26th for sure?

A
this is DElibERate on aTi's part . . . they are the "anti-nVdia" and don't want to be confused with their competitor's hype-machine . . . 😉

consequently, no 'official launch party' . . . 🙁

just a bad@ss GPU on steroids . . . shortly . . . 😀

True..... same thing with the 9700...... nothing much was said until the day the card arrived and then it was more like "well here it is" (evne though it smoked Nvidia's cards)

Youre right, the 6800 will never come out. NVIDIA is evil and eats children...

What I meant was, it was over a month ago they "announce" the card, and you STILL can;t buy one. ATI on the otherhand will have cards on the shelves (you can already buy one on-line) on the day they announce their new cards. Big difference IMO.

NVIDIA send the chips to OEMs for board design at this stage, it takes the OEMs time to develop their boards and get them out the door and onto shelves. Its just a difference in the way they work things.

I do agree that it probably isnt the best way to go about it, but it isnt neccesarily bad either.

April 26th was the day ATI was supposed to announce their next gen card.
The day came and went with nothing.
Review sites usually get the cards, wait for the NDA to expire, then post the reviews.
I haven't seen any reviews, although, I have seen the news story.

So what we're saying here, is that ATI didn't send any cards to review sites, skipped the announcement, and on the 7th, the card will magically be available? I dunno, something just seems weird.

I can't remember where I read it, but I think the reply was from an ATI employee, that the 26th was nver supposed to be the release date, but the date the cards started shipping to stores, and that the release was May 4th (tomorrow!!!!) I am sure that Anand has had the card for weeks now, and the review will be up tomorrow.

I wish nvidia got the Intel platform and AMD got ATI.... I want ATI and AMD for integration. 😛

Oh well.... if Dell starts using the AMD 9100IGP, it'll mean BIG BUCKS for ATI....
...and if ATI is truly behind the next-gen "Intel Extreme" graphics.... $cashing-g-g$

I thought the new IEG chip was based off of tile rendering, and was being developed by PowerVR.

Well I work for a major retailer, and can asure you that no x800 are in our inventory system. If they were shiped to the stores on April 26th, then they would be here (or in our inventory at least) by now waiting to be sold on the release date.
