Having a hard time deciding what to do..my setup is my sig...

Just bought a BBA X800pro for 399 at CompUSA that supposely can be flashed to XT speeds with 16 pipelines..but havent opened it yet. The SKU is the same matches correctly with the ones that can be flashed. Keep this or...get a 6800GT for the same price? A simple answer please. No fanboy flame wars...just which one would you get. They both cost the same.

Thanks

does the x800pro come with vivo? if so then it is possible to be softmodded, if not you still have a great card. imo the 2 are equal and really not worth the hassle.

If they're both the same price I would get the 6800GT. It is just as likely to overclock to Ultra speeds as the X800 is to flash to an XT. The GT will not require any kind of BIOS flashing though.

People are saying that the VIVO X800PRO's are all capable of being flashed to XT's. I find that very hard to believe. If you want to test your luck, go for it, but the GT is a much safer bet IMO.

The flash to 16 pipes is 100% afaik. The only thing that varies is overclocking to XTPE speeds.

IMO 16 pipeline Pro > GT. Flashing takes a few minutes at most if you are willing to do it.

Even if you don't want to flash, coolbits is coming out with a utility that will softmod the card for you without flashing it. You can overclock from there and get same results. I would agree that flashing the bios is the quickest easiest way however.

I'd just use the X800Pro for a few months (what games are you having trouble playing with an X800Pro?) and see if any problems crop up with soft-modded X800's. If the cards seem to hold up well and you feel you need the extra speed, go for the soft-mod. I just don't think it's really necessary at this point. Of course I also don't play games with the AA/AF cranked up and the highest res I ever play at is 12x10 so you may need something faster. If that's the case, I think it depends on the games you play. This seems to be a decision between a X800XT and a 6800Ultra, a topic which has been debated to death. Either way you'll lose your warranty by overclocking/soft-modding so that doesn't seem to be an issue though.

If your looking for a particular manufacture (assuming you might get a Nvidia 6800 GT) I would
strongly recommend the BFG Tech Geforce 6800 GT OC, which is pre-OCed from 350 mhz to 370 mhz, and is still around $400. Nice thing about BFG Tech is that even if you OC the card further, your warranty still stays.

See if you can flash it, if not, then return it for a 6800GT, they are the same price at most retail locations.

Unless you have benchmark envy keep the pro you bought, quit worrying, fvck the mod till the card hit's a point in it's life when it could use the speed bump, and squash any buyer remorse you might be suffering from :)

I have a 6800gt, I say get the x800 and do the mod.
If yer gonna pay 400 might as well get as much performance as possible. I dont think theres any doubt you will see noticeable gains in actual game play if u are successful. (at high rez and candies on)

Just take your time, and be careful with it . I havent heard of anyone down right blowing up the cards in the process..

I think cool hacks like this is what makes pc gaming a lot of fun.

If yer not gonna do the mod, get the 6800gt, just my 2 cents.

good luck.

From a practical standpoint, I'm with Dapunisher, start screwing with the card when starts to run out of juice.

But as we all know, that card sitting inside that box, will work on you like Chinese Water Torture :D When "Reward" starts screaming louder than "Risk", you're cooked, and you'll be on that mod like stink on sh1t. :Q The question you have to answer for yourself is how long do you think you can resist?

It appears some ppl say they are getting 1.6ns ram on their x800pro vivos. If ATI was limiting their x800xt release due to lack of ddr3 ram, then why are they putting 1.6ns ram on x800pros instead of putting them on xts and getting more xts out there? This seems to hint that ATI is being more limited by their own fabrication problems than by samsung's.

As you can see from my sig, I like to push everything to its limit regardless of if I need the power or not. haha. I guess its just in my nature. If I decide to keep this card, the first thing I am going to do is mod it. :p . I guess really, this discussion is comparing an x800xt to a 6800 ultra bc both cards can overclock to that level.

Before, I thought it was nuts to spend $400 on a videocard. Now here I am deciding which on to get. =( . With all this great PC games coming out, I guess resistance is futile.

I was gonna get the x800 pro and OC it to the XT levels. Then it came to me that it was so hard to find a new X800 Pro for a resonable price that I just ended up getting a BFG 6800 GT OC. I'm quite happy with it. I can run nearly every recent game on 1600x1200. If the XT is compared with the Ultra, I would say it's a tough call, it all comes down to which games you play. If the standard Pro is compared with the GT, the GT wins hands down.

Actually, I believe you can still get the ATI X800 Pro's @ BBY's website for $400. While the X800 Pro has more potential with the mod, the 6800GT is a safer bet for the money. That and if you go BFG, you have lifetime warranty. Pluses and minuses each way. Whatever floats your boat
