Anyone running one of the new ATi cards with a LCD? I need to replace my aging 9600XT with a faster card so that the frame rates come up at the default res of 12x10. I'm not much of a NVidia lover as I tried out a 9600gt and was not impressed at all.

A 9600GT?

u mean 6800gt or 6600gt right?

well x800pro isnt really a good buy in my opinion, sure it'll do you, but im very weary over the life span of that particular card. i really do think that if your going to buy now for gaming at resolutions of 12x10 and over you wanna be looking at at least 6800GT's. but you said you werent impressed by nvidias new cards (why? theyre pretty darn good if u ask me) x800pro wouldnt be a good investment.

if u can only afford a X800Pro, dont bother get yourself a 6800GT, they are the same price and the GT is the better card. if not go for a X800XT, or X800XT PE if you can find one for the right price and you'll be happy. though id be abit weary of X800XT PE's also, my friend has one, and he gets mad artifacts in Source engined games (HL2 and CS:S) and occasionally in other titles. he knows another guy with the same problem. thought underclocking the card to X800XT speeds sorts the problem, he paid for a XT PE and hes not gettin it.

really jus rethink about the x800pro, there are better cards out there that will last longer. aim for X800XT or if your on PCi-E maybe a X800XL. and i really wouldnt pass off Nvidia that quick

If you get a x800pro vivo, then I think you can unlock the other 4 pipes and have yourself a x800xt. That's what I would do anyways.

either way that still puts out the message that the x800pro isnt really enough, the only reason to buy it is to softmod it and save $$$

Sorry about the confusion...I had a 6600gt...and was not impressed with that card. Overall, the ATi seems to be much nicer on the eyes for general 2D requirements. I'm not looking at turning 100+ fps in HL2, but I think an X800 series or 6800 nu would double what I'm currently getting from my 9600xt.

I have just always found ATi to be the better overall card for all applications. If I gamed only, I would agree on the NVidia based cards, but I'm having a hard time looking at a 6800 nu.

As for the x800, I looked up the differences on ATi's site and did a comparison off all the x800 cards, and to me the pro looked like the best bang for the buck. I'm listining...
