520/540 for the XT & 540/590 for the XTPE I believe.

So your $199 card should be faster than either of those, right?

it can potentially be faster and appears to be the same card.

there are some cases on other forums where some cards are not
as OC friendly as mine but it could depend on the rest of the system
as usual. So YMMV but for $150-200 less it is sure wortha shot.

most folks get atleast X850XT speeds out of these w/o fail.

I couldn't resist. I ordered one. Now I'll have to connect up a floppy so I can flash this beast properly.

 enjoy!

This is really good deal considering they are essentially
selling the same card already clocked for so much more.

I've had really good luck with the X800 generation of cards. And an X850XT PE would just be awesome in my new rig. I can't SLI it but I might not have to. 🙂

well looks like the price on this puppy just went up to 219 on newegg. Im happy I got mine $20 cheaper haha =) grrr only problem now is having to install a floppy =( just in case a cd boot doesn't go according to plan.

I'll have a USB dealie at work in a few days. If I get it before I get the card I'll go that way. Otherwise I'll use a CD. I've done DOS flashing that way before with no problems.

Jayczar, can you post the exact BIOS flash command that you used to flash the card?

you bet, and this is assuming you have gotten all of your files from:

techpowerup.com

after you have added the files to a bootable device this is what you should type at the prompt:

A:\flashrom -f -p 0 sapphi~1.bin

[ENTER]

you should hear a little music from the bios and then voila....16 pipes and
overclock till you are stable or content.

like I said you should easily hit 520/540-850XT speed but 540/590 X850XTPE
speed and more should be obtainable.

not bad considering these cards are 400/490 default.

Thanks man. I did get all my files from that site. That -f flag was the only thing I was unsure of. Now I've got my CD all ready to go. All I need is NewEgg to get my card here ASAP. 😀

and they will, let us know how it turns out.

these cards are really heavy and cool well with the stock aluminum HSF, though it
may be interesting to see what a copper Zalman or AS5 would do under pressure
on these badboys.

mine seems to laugh at higher speeds, but as I said earlier I will
post some screens and benches before the weekend is over.

does anyone know where you can buy the GTO2 in Canada?
Also, is the GTO2 one of those cards that are limited and when run out of stock, no more would be produced?

It depends on how profitable it is to sell them. If ATi was just trying to get rid of the older chips, it could be a limited run. If there is a massive demand, maybe ATi will make more.

From AT's Price Guides, October 2005: Video Cards:

"However, our pick for this week will definitely be for the Sapphire Radeon X800GTO2 256MB [RTPE: 100130]. This card features the R480 core with all 16 pixel pipes enabled for a price of around $220! These cards overclock very well, but since ATI sold the cores as excess inventory, they can't be labeled what they really are, X850 parts."

I'm kind of confused right now about the stock open pipelines on this card. Anand says 16. NewEgg says 16. This thread says 12 but the other 4 unlock with the flash.

What's the real deal here? If it's coming with 12 why does Anand and NewEgg say 16 are open by default?

Check the beginning of this thread, the people that have them are saying they come with 12 stock and once flashed with the new bios you have the 16. Same with Tech Power Up and they're the ones that first started doing this. I believe both Newegg and Anand are wrong in their descriptions.

Check the description here.

"...the next generation Sapphire RADEON X800 GTO2! Built upon industry acclaimed tech and tweaked to perfection is the moniker of any Sapphire product and the X800 GTO does not disappoint with it is 12 Pixel Pipelines and 256MB of onboard memory while utilizing a 256-bit memory interface."

I'm expecting the card to arrive with 12 pipes open, I've got my stuff ready to flash it as soon as it gets here.

Here's a question: how many vertex shaders are enabled by default on these cards? I don't recall seeing any mention of that yet.

so far, i haven't seen any failures . . . i believe the X800GTO needs pipes unlocked . . . the GTO2 comes unlocked . . . or so the story in Hot Deals goes . . .

and you actually get a "true" x800xt or xtpe after the flash

i'd be all over this if it came in AGP [or i had a pciE Mboard].
