So I'm looking at aftermarket cooling on Newegg since I ordered my card yesterday and 3 new reviews popped up today, 2 of which mentioned heat being a big issue and the third mentioning an unexplained failure of the card (I'm not an expert or anything, but with the first two saying what they did, chances are it's possible it died from heat issues). My question is what is the difference between the following 3 coolers, and which should I get for maximum cooling efficiency? Also, how hard is it to install one of these? I've never done it before.

Arctic Cooling AVC-AT1 Revision 2
Arctic Cooling AVC-AT5 Revision 2
Arctic Cooling AVC-AT4 Revision 2

I believe the version 5 is for cards with the r480 core (x850xt, x800gto2,...), and the version 4 is for cards with the r420 core (x800xt, x800pro,...) Version 1 is the oldest, and I'd recommend either of the 2 newer ones. If you take off the stock cooler you will see what core your gto has. I installed one on my friend's gto2, and it's not hard at all, just follow the instructions. But I used a zalman vf700 on my own gto, because I knew it will fit and I just had one lying around.

Munky has it correct. The ATI Silencer 5 is for R430(PCI-e) and R480(PCI-e) and R481(AGP) cores.

Okay. Am I voiding anything by adding one of these? And does that mean that I have to take off the stock cooler before even ordering one of these to find out the core or is there some kind of program that can get the diagnostics for me?
