X800GT vs 6600GT

Hey guys, i recently bought the BFG 6600GT OC for about 200CAD (after rebates) but i have not opened it yet because i haven't bought the other parts of my new computer. Should i return this one and get the x800gt when it comes out? I think it will be about 200 CAD as well (w/o any rebates). Thanks.

Well the x800gt is a bit faster then the 6600gt, except in doom3. But ofcourse it doesnt have the power of 3 features like the 6600gt 😉
But when exactly will it hit retail, that is the question.

Don't worry, neither card would be able to run HL2 @ 1280x1024 with 8X AA and 16X AF on if that is what you are worried about. They will both most likely handle the mid-range market similarly. That seems a pretty ok price for a 6600GT anyways considering the outlandish premiums we Canadians have to pay for computer parts.

to shabby: rofl power of 3. Oh no ATI is going to get owned by the power of 3 haha.

How exactly is it going to get owned by the power of 3? The SM3.0 card he is looking at won't even be able to run the new games that use these features at an exectable framerate with those features turned on so what's the point of hyping this stuff? Get whichever card will give higher framerates for the game you're playing when the x800gt comes out since neither is going to be valid for very long.

Are you serious, or are you being sarcastic, because we're being sarcastic...

You are an idiot for buying the GFX card before the other parts. (Unless the rebate offer runs out within the next few days/week)
Order to buy parts if you're buying bit-by-bit:
Case/PSU/Monitor
RAM
Mobo
CPU/GFX

Because CPU/GFX are the most likely to have price drops between the times you start to buy parts, and the time you finish buying them, while cases tend to have the most static price, and RAM can go up OR down, so it's always risky.

it was a sale with a MIR that expires, plus i price matched another place. plus im building my computer within a week or two.

I wouldn't bother getting a x800 gt because it performs the same as a 6600 gt!

Guru3D's X800 GT review

It appears it's the 256mb version (as featured in the Guru3D review) which performs like a 6600 GT and the 128mb x800 gt is slower.

hmmm, i guess because i bought the 6600gt alrdy, i'll keep it and upgrade sometime later on. the x800gt 256mb looks like it'll have a higher price here in canada anyways.
