Seems the 6600GT dominates the X800GT in HF2

Well...without AA, 6600GT > X800GT, with AA x800GT > 6600GT

Do you care much for AA? If not, take the 6600GT because it will bring you higher fps without it.

So which article is right then? Aanandtech's or that? According to anandtech's the x800GT is only faster when AA 4x is on.

Even weirder, the latest xbit/digit-life numbers show the X800GT to be a little faster without AA/AF, but slower than the 6600GT with AA/AF in HL2 (which makes no sense, since the X800GT has *way* more memory bandwidth).

i have both (xfx 6600gt and sapphire x800gto2). HL@ is adequete on the 6600gt but plays and looks much better on x800gto2.

Once i get my gto modded to x850, there wont be much of a contest.

Psh...an x800xl won't TOUCH your 6800GS.

:)

BTW, aren't x800's better than x800GTs?

Munky, why wouldn't you recommend him the same x800gto that you're using? With an overclock anywhere near what you're getting, the card would be WAY faster than a 6600GT.

The gto I have is awesome, but they dont always unlock, and costs a bit more than the 6600gt or x800gt. But definitely if you can afford to spend a little extra and are willing to OC the card the gto is the best card under $200, and they generally Oc to 500mhz or higher. If it unlocks then it's even better.

here's one for $107 AMR

Another one for $119 without rebates

are those x800 faster than a 6600gt?
what about this?

At that price level go for either one of the X800GTO(if you are into modding) parts or a 6800GS(out of the box)- they will smoke that board for about the same money spent.

My X800GTO from Sapphire hits 600/600 with no trouble at all. Not tried modding the bios though. Too much effort for an extra four pipelines. I barely game as it is, though :p.

I was playing HL2 on an X700 AGP, a stonking 8 pipelines and 256mb ram. It wasn't all that bad, to be honest :p

I doubt that, unless your brother in law likes his AA, he'll notice the difference between the two cards. The NV is probably better bang for buck, but.. Really depends on his gaming preference.

You left out two important details here: what res is he gaming at and how much money can you spend on it?

You can get that same card for $133 at Amazon Text

Unfortunately you just missed out on a $75 rebate which would have made it a killer hot deal. Text

I just noticed that Newegg is now selling the vanilla X800 (Visiontek retail box) for $114. Link

Seems like a nice deal to me. This is a better card than a 6600GT and the hot deals on the 6600GTs seem to have dried up.

For the X800, the memory on the DDR1 cards is clocked at the same speed as the DDR3 cards. You might have better overclocking potential on the DDR3 cards but that's about it.
