X800 XT (non-pe)

Some of you may have already read my other post about the SFF, now I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about the XT (non-pe). It is between that and a 6800 GT, and the card has to be stock, no mod suggestions or anything like that. I know the XT will perform better, but it is also 100 dollars more. What I am looking for are heat readings, sound, and just a general concensus of whether or not the XT (NON-PE mind you) is worth the extra hundred. Thanks.

I know that performance wise the xt is only slightly better at stock speeds then the gt. On top of that, I wouldnt pay that difference esp when the gt can oc to ultra speeds (not that this is an issue cuz ur looking for low heat). The noise output would depend on the manufacturer of the card. I mean an msi gt would probably have a different cooler then the gainward cards for example. Heat wise, neither card is that drastically different from the other one. The better the cooler, and the better cooling system u have in your SFF the less heat you will have, but the more noise u will have. I think your best option is to get the GT and spend the rest on water cooling or some other advanced quieter, yet efficient air cooling setup with the rest of your money. It would be the best ballance of all the things you are looking for.

Some places may not use the PE designation. They may just call it an XT. You'll have to check clock speeds, I believe 520 for the PE and 500 for the XT, to make sure of what you are getting.

I would not think the XT is $100 better than the 6800GT.

Unless it's really a PE and just called an XT and you got it for the lower price. 😀

no no no again. Ive already covered this a while back.

X800XT and X800XTPE are the EXACT SAME. The only difference is the name. they have exact same clocks and memory amount. They just call is platinum edition if it is bba or a company ati gave permission to use the name. that is it.

This is incorrect.

Although in the months that followed the X800 release, many retailers were omiting the 'PE' portion of the X800XT PE as they had no need to further distinguish between cards ("X800Pro" and "X800XT" being distinct enough).

At the time this didn't cause any undue confusion as ATI had made it clear that the 'non-PE' X800XT card would be PCIe only.

However, over the past 4-6 weeks ATI (as well as their partners) have been issuing true 'non-PE' X800XT AGP cards.

This has unfortunately only been sparsely reported.

These cards are simply underclocked X800XT PEs, featuring 500/1000 clocks rather than 520/1120-1150.

This is likely a result of needing to maintain a public visage of (any) X800XT cards being available on the retail market.
The lowering of particularly the GPU clock standard appears to have minimised some of the yield issues reputed in creating XTPE class cores.

You are TOATLY wrong. Check nightic's post...

As for the OP, I would go with the GT because the XT is not worth $100 more IMO. It is a touch faster in most games but not THAT much faster.

Last time i read, they said the only difference was name. So they are different now? Do you know what the price diff is gonna be?
