ok im gonna get a new comp very soon and i was wondering if i should get the x800 XL or buy a 6800 gt and put it in sli in a year or so, I leaning towards sli anyone get any suggestions. I gonna buy the comp from monarch so the x800 costs 350 and the 6800 gt cost 374. Thanks for all your help. This is mainly most preformance for the least money couldnt speen more than maybe 300 to upgrade in a year or 2.

Get the 6800GT. Its much more "future-proof" with SM3.0. While it doesn't really matter now, you're situation is like mine. Don't want to upgrade every 8 months, so, get something that is as "future-proof" as you can afford. Thats why I went with an A64 system (that, and Prescott is a POS IMHO), and got a 6800GT. Not to mention I am an NVIDIA fanboy :p . They haven't let me down yet, so, why change to ATI? Look at my username, and my sig for that matter: NVIDIA mobo, NVIDIA videocard. It screams "FANBOY" :p .

Please see the last giant thread on this. For $25 more, I'd probably go with the 6800GT, but it's not like you're making a bad choice either way (although $350 isn't a great price on an X800XL).

I think you can find much better pricing on both cards elsewhere. X800XL should run you around $280 and 6800GT around $340 for a savvy shopper.
