I remember reading every launch "review" -- you know, the reviews of chosen samples sent out by ATi months before actual availability -- and they all said the same thing: Wow, a 16-pipe card for $299! Did these suckers forget the cardinal law of hardware economics? If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I can't find one online for less than $380, which puts it well above the market price for a 6800 GT, which it was supposed to so gloriously undercut.

Is this an availability issue, or did ATi realize what a cash cow they had on their hands? And if it's the former, are they going to be able to fix the situation, unlike last time around?

I doubt it'll be near MSRP for at least another month, if not longer than that. Unfortunately, that seems to be par for the course these days. In addition to producing a high-end $500 card, they can say that supply is low and charge $800 for that same card. It's sad, really.

Where are you finding PCI-E 6800GT's for less than the X800XL? At Newegg they are $450 and up.

When I heard that the X850 XT was supposed to be $499, I gave up all hope that retailers would stick to the MSRP.

OK, we really don't need new threads about this card every two or three days, especially in GH. There have been four or five of these already in Video.
