They're pretty close, but the x800 is overall faster. It loses in Doom 3 tho IIRC. The 256mb should make it much more future-proof, although it's days are already numbered. Not a good time to buy this card at all IMO. Wait 2 days for the new ATI midrange; it's gonna be quite good apparently.

What resolutions do you play at? If 1280/1024 then def 6600GT.

repeat: wait until wednesday (Oct 5th) when ATI will officially unveil the new generation of video cards (named X1300, X1600 and X1800). Most likely they will offer better value then current ATI cards, plus cause price drops on existing cards.

hey listen to everyone and wait until the new cards drop. i have an X800 128mb and it's great. if you can't wait, that X800 256mb @ $130 is a damn good deal.

For the record, x800 > 6600gt. Read the review, it gives a more detailed picture of the performance in modern games. But I agree, that you should wait a few days for the new cards, even if just to see what the options are.
