Hi,

My x800 often freezes for a second every ten minutes or so when using any 3d application(which sucks when playing games- it often happens at critical junctures during online play), no matter how simple the application is. Other than that the card performs well and gives great FPS even with high settings on more demanding games such as FEAR or Battlefield 2. I was wondering if rasing voltage settings in bios would be a possible solution.. This has been going on ever since I have had the card- I got it new about 4 months ago. Changing game settings to lower quality does nothing to help the issue. It runs 38c to 40c idle, 60 to 61c under full load, so heat is not an issue.

thanks

make sure all your programs with auto up-date or new message checking features are turned off.

I keep my auto-start programs to a minimum.

System:

Abit KN8 Ultra
athlon 64 3800
2 gigs Corsair XMS Twins
Nextherm Masscool 460 watt PSU (Jonnyguru recommended)

I had a pci card before- an nvidia riva tnt :p

It doesn't shut down the game or anything, it just freezes for a second and then continues in the game. It is just very annoying and strange

sometimes there is a *trace* of nvidia driver left ... they will NOT *play well* with ATi cats

make *sure* you delete everything 'nvidia' ... use Driver Cleaner to be sure

and a ReFormat is sometimes the best way :(

Thanks guys, getting rid of those nvidia drivers did the trick. Much appreciated. Just curious: why do they cause trouble like that?

There is a more technical reason but:

You can have problems if old graphics drivers are left over because the old drivers can try and access your new card

Normally just uninstalling works fine but sometimes driver cleaner is needed
