from what i've read, the x800xl is faster than the x800 pro
how come all the retail outlets, like best buy, compusa, etc..
have the x800xl @ 349 and the x800pro @ 399 ?
the xl has 16 pipelines and the pro has 12, what gives here?
or am i missing something, im looking to upgrade soon and need the info.

thanks

The xl is better every way you look at it, and it cost less because it's cheaper for ati to build, because of the smalled die size.

x800xl will ne better stock but it will flounder when ocing. "average" ocs are abour 435-440 on the core and maybe 1070-1090 on the memory.(around 10% average from 400/1000)

x800pro ocs much more and has the ability to unlock to 16pipes with a little bit of simple work with a conductive pen. it usually should hit 520-540 core and 1140-1180 ram(from 475/900) overclocked, a x800pro will be faster on average than a x800xl overclocked)

stock, the x800pro is around 1-2fps slower. also, the unlock rate after the conductive pen trick is very high it really matters if you want stock performance or if you are willing to spend a little bi of effort.

Unless you are talking about AGP, I heard there is very little success in trying to softmod the x800pro vivo from 12 pipes to 16 pipes on PCI-E. (That's what drive me away from getting a cheap $220ish PCI-E x800pro vivo lol)

the succes rate is 75% if you use a pen and connect a dot that is laser cut with some conductive ink to reenable the use of the other 4 pipes.

that's interesting, where did you got those information from? (I asked that because I heard so many people from ocforum say the hardmod hardly works and sometimes it even fries the card after trying the mod)
