Looking into a replacement for my 9600xt, and I found a new 9800XT w/256MB for $300. Since the AGP market is slim right now, I'm wondering how much of a performance difference there really is between the X800 and the 9800 XT. Any thoughts?

Don't get a 9800XT. There are much better options for $300.

For $300 you should be looking at these in addition to an X800

nvidia 6800 ~$250

nvidia 6800gt ~$360

X800pro ~$360

Here's some benchmarks

These show how the 9800 series compares to the newer cards.

The X800 Pro is a lot faster than a 9800XT. Don't bother with the XT; get something faster.

Thanks for listing the graph...that helped alot. The bright side is they are all twice as fast as my aging 9600XT. I wish the graph showed 12x10 as that is where my problem is...running a lcd. Glad I didn't order the 9800XT now.

With the resolution lower you'll be able to crank the AA and AF too :)

You forgot X800XL ~$305

I thought the AGP version suxored...

If it doesn't, then totally get the X800XL.

I just seem to remember several threads a couple weeks ago stating that the AGP version sucked.

EDIT: looks like you're right on it not sucking :)

X800XL is my new recommendation :D

The Radeon X800 Pro has 12 pipes whereas the Radeon 9800XT has only 8. Also, the X800 Pro is clocked at 475Mhz whereas the 9800XT is only clocked at 412Mhz. So you're going to get 50% or more performance from the X800 Pro over the 9800XT.:)
